River Walk

Cañon City is the seat of Fremont County and the gateway to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Upper Arkansas River corridor. Approximately 24,000 people live in the metro area which boast such scenic treasures as the "River Walk."  

The total population of Fremont County is more than 49,000 people. In addition to Cañon City and Florence, smaller communities thrive along the Arkansas River corridor, including Penrose, Howard and Williamsburg. The western portion of the county winds into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and outdoor activities, including: white water rafting, hiking and fly-fishing, abound.

Scenic attractions include the Royal Gorge, Skyline Drive, Florence Mountain Park, the River Walk, Rafting on the Arkansas and much more.

Major employers for Fremont County include St. Thomas More Hospital, Department of Corrections, Holcim Industries, Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center, and Portec.

There is a strong representation of religious denominations, three school districts and local shopping available in Fremont County.
