Cañon City is the seat of Fremont County and the gateway to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Upper Arkansas River corridor. Approximately 24,000 people live in the metro area which boast such scenic treasures as the "River Walk."
The total population of Fremont County is more than 49,000 people. In addition to Cañon City and Florence, smaller communities thrive along the Arkansas River corridor, including Penrose, Howard and Williamsburg. The western portion of the county winds into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and outdoor activities, including: white water rafting, hiking and fly-fishing, abound.
